Diabetology

Around 700,000 people in Austria suffer from diabetes. However, only two out of three of those affected are aware of it.

At the time of diagnosis, one in five patients already has complications affecting their kidneys, eyes or nerves. Today's lifestyle, characterised by a lack of exercise and resulting obesity, is causing an increasing number of people to suffer from diabetes.

As it is an asymptomatic disease, it is important to have your blood sugar levels checked regularly. The most important thing with diabetes is to control your blood sugar properly. Otherwise, blood vessels can become damaged over time, which can lead to heart attacks, strokes, retinal diseases and even blindness.

Since April 2015, Elisabeth, the head diabetes nurse at the Wels-Grieskirchen Clinic, has supported the care of diabetes patients at the practice.

Drug treatment options have improved in recent years, enabling diabetes patients to be managed very effectively.

  • Blood sugar control
  • Diabetes consultation
  • Drug therapy
  • Treatment of gestational diabetes
  • Insulin therapy
  • Functional insulin therapy
  • Sensor adjustment for continuous measurement of blood sugar
